sugar
The first sugar I bought for our own household, was COCONUTS. Interestingly it has a dark brown color. They obtain it from fresh, guided flowers of coconut palms, which are hand-picked, and from them they obtain a sweet liquid. The liquid is heated until all the water has evaporated. And the final product is coconut sugar. It contains some iron, zinc, calcium and potassium, as well as a few short-chain fatty acids, polyphenols, antioxidants and inulin. Because of its poor solubility in water inulin slows down the absorption of glucose. It has minimal effect on raising blood sugar, so it is suitable for diabetics. However, coconut sugar contains almost the same amount of fructose as a normal (white) sugar. If you consume too much sugar, it can leads to many medical problems, such as metabolic syndrome (syndrome X), obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Coconut sugar is not as harmful as regular white sugar, and certainly is not the food, which can be able to enjoy unlimited.
Because the price is quite expensive (0,5kg costs about € 10), I started to buy unrefined cane sugar Dennree (on photo is right. It looks like it is white, but it is actually more like beige color). This sugar is not deprived of molasses (it is brownish in color), which contains a lot of iron, potassium, selenium, chromium, vitamin B6, and it is essential for successful digestion of sugar.
Now we have ProVida Mascavo sugar (left), because it was on discount in our local specialized shop. I bought it 2 packages, so it is likely that it will be quite a bit of time on our shelf. Because I know sugar is not healthy, I want to use it very limited. I would like to prepare sinless desserts. ;)
